• National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto has proposed a total ban on the circulation of electronic cigarettes or vapes in Indonesia. The proposal was made during a press conference on the disclosure of the smuggling of 1.16 tons of ketamine HCl in Belawan, North Sumatra, on Friday (23/10/2026).
• Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni expressed full support for the proposal on Saturday (24/10/2026): 'I support 1000% Pak Kapolri Suyudi's move to push for a total ban on vape in Indonesia. The discovery of drugs in vape liquid has been very massive,' said Sahroni.
• Sahroni assessed that the packaging and aroma of vape liquid could be disguised, making it difficult for the public to distinguish products containing narcotics from ordinary liquid, while access remains easy. According to him, public safety must be the priority.
• Member of House Commission III from the PDIP faction, Nasyirul Falah Amru (Gus Falah), also voiced support. He assessed that vape cartridges are prone to containing etomidate and referenced the East Java MUI fatwa that prohibits the misuse of electronic cigarettes as a means of narcotics use.
• Gus Falah urged that the National Police Chief's statement be translated into concrete action. He noted that the DPR is still discussing the revision of the Narcotics Law and assessed that Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health could serve as an instrument for taking action against both drug dealers and users.
• The National Police Chief assessed that vapes have become an entry point for the circulation of liquid narcotics. Previously, on October 17, 2026, the National Police Chief asked MUI to issue a fatwa declaring vapes haram, and MUI is now reviewing the fatwa in depth.
