Falls at Turn 8 During Duel with Marquez

Jorge Martin had to end his 2026 Australian MotoGP weekend early after suffering a massive crash in the sprint race at Phillip Island Circuit on Saturday (24/10/2026). The Aprilia rider fell on the eighth lap of 13 while engaged in a fierce battle with Marc Marquez for the win.

Martin lost control of his motorcycle at Turn 8 and crashed at high speed. He was thrown across the gravel trap on the side of the track before being evacuated on a stretcher by marshals and taken to the circuit medical center for examination.

Before the crash, Martin had been competitive throughout the sprint. He briefly led the race on lap three and continued trading positions with Marquez until the incident at Turn 8 halted his progress.

Aprilia Confirms Martin to Miss Main Race

X-ray results confirmed a serious injury to Martin's right arm. Aprilia confirmed a fracture of the right radius bone and a suspected fracture of the right ulna bone at the distal end. The medical team then declared Martin unfit to compete in the main race on Sunday (25/10/2026).

In a team statement, Aprilia confirmed the decision. "Martin has been declared unfit to compete in tomorrow's race," the team said in a statement cited from the race report.

Martin still needs to undergo further examinations to get a definitive assessment of his condition. Martin's absence is a major blow for Aprilia, which is now relying on Marco Bezzecchi as the team's best representative after he finished fourth in the sprint.

The Championship Title Is Drifting Further Away from Martin

The MotoGP Australian sprint race was won by Marc Marquez of Ducati. Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing finished second, 0.323 seconds behind, while Fabio Di Giannantonio of Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team finished third, 0.590 seconds back.

The sprint result changed the map of the 2026 MotoGP world championship battle. Martin, who began the sprint with a two-point lead over Marquez, now trails his rival by 10 points, a 12-point swing that hurt the Spanish rider.

The Australian MotoGP main race will be held at Phillip Island on Sunday (25/10/2026) without Jorge Martin on the track. Marquez, who also secured pole position in the qualifying session, now holds full control in the title fight.
