Goalless First Half at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea had to accept defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on their own ground. In Premier League matchday 8 of 2026/2027 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday (24/10/2026), evening WIB, the hosts lost 0-2 to the visitors after the game stayed deadlocked for more than an hour.

The first half ended goalless and short of clear chances. The best chance of the opening period came from Omar Marmoush, whose close-range effort was kept out. Tottenham dominated possession, but both sides struggled to create quality in the final third.

Tottenham suffered a blow in the 49th minute when James Maddison was injured without contact from another player and had to be replaced by Conor Gallagher. The midfielder had been driving his side's play before leaving the pitch, and his loss was a worry for Tottenham even though they went on to win.

Penders Own Goal Breaks the Deadlock

The deadlock was finally broken in the 77th minute in painful fashion for the hosts. Mike Penders, Chelsea's goalkeeper on his full Premier League debut, misjudged a Mateus Fernandes corner and punched the ball into his own goal to put Tottenham 1-0 ahead.

Things got worse for Chelsea three minutes later. Cole Palmer received a second yellow card in the 80th minute after stepping on Conor Gallagher's ankle, and referee Chris Kavanagh sent the Chelsea midfielder off. Down to 10 men, Chelsea lost control of the game.

Tottenham sealed the win in the 87th minute through an individual effort from Mathys Tel. The French forward carried the ball from his own half to the edge of Chelsea's box, then fired a low shot into the bottom-left corner beyond Penders' reach. The goal was the perfect finish for the visitors.

Rare Tottenham Win at Stamford Bridge

The win felt historic for Tottenham. The north London club have now won at Chelsea's home only twice in Premier League history, and this 2-0 victory was their first clean-sheet win at Stamford Bridge since December 1986. Tel was named man of the match for his goal, four successful dribbles, and two chances created.

The result lifted Tottenham to 12th in the table after back-to-back wins and three games unbeaten. Chelsea, meanwhile, must bounce back quickly: they have now received nine red cards in the Premier League since the start of last season, the most of any side in that period.

Next up, Chelsea travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in the EFL Cup fourth round in midweek, while Tottenham enjoy a full week off before hosting Crystal Palace in the Premier League the following weekend.
