Fire Allegedly Originated from Welding Workshop, Spread to Six Buildings
A fire swept through the Ciracas area of East Jakarta early Saturday, October 24, 2026. The blaze is believed to have originated from a welding workshop on Jalan Raya Ciracas before spreading to surrounding buildings.
According to a Liputan 6 report, the fire from the welding workshop spread to six other buildings. An iNews Pagi report on the same day stated that a total of seven buildings were engulfed by the fire, a figure consistent with the count of the workshop where the fire originated plus six other buildings that caught fire.
Both reports, published on the same day, agreed on the key figures of the incident: seven buildings affected, fourteen fire trucks, and seventy personnel. The alignment of numbers from two different media outlets forms the basis of this article's reporting, while the exact cause of the fire has not yet been officially announced.
70 Firefighter Personnel and 14 Fire Trucks Deployed
A total of 14 fire engines and 70 personnel were deployed to the location to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading to other buildings. Crews battled the blaze for about an hour before the fire was successfully put out.
The deployment of dozens of personnel and more than a dozen fire trucks indicated a fire of considerable scale for the residential and commercial area along that roadside.
Firefighting efforts are focused on preventing the flames from spreading to other buildings around the site. Fire that has already spread from one building to a neighboring one is indeed the greatest risk in fires in densely populated areas, making the speed of deploying firefighting units the determining factor in the extent of the damage.
One Man Suffers Burns After Jumping from Second Floor
Amid the raging flames, a man was evacuated by residents after jumping from the second floor of a burning welding workshop. The man suffered burns to his back.
The rescue was captured in a video that circulated and drew media attention, as the man had to save himself from the upper floor of a building already engulfed in flames.
Cause Still Under Investigation
As of the time this report was compiled, the exact cause of the fire had not been officially disclosed. iNews reports still question the chronology of the fire and the cause of the flames, so conclusions about the fire's trigger cannot yet be confirmed.
Fires at welding workshops like this serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance against fire sources at business premises, especially flammable materials and equipment around the work area.
Residents near the fire scene also played a role in the initial rescue efforts, as seen in the evacuation of a man who jumped from the second floor of the workshop. However, firefighting itself remains the duty of firefighters, as flames in a building already ablaze are extremely dangerous for untrained individuals.
