Tire Allegedly Detached Upon Touching Runway

An Asian One Air Caravan PK-LTF aircraft skidded upon landing at Bilorai Airport, Sugapa District, Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Saturday morning (24/10/2026). Piloted by Captain Riza and co-piloted by Captain Andi, the aircraft landed at around 08:30 WIT (Eastern Indonesia Time) carrying eight passengers.

The eight passengers consisted of three members of Koramil (Military Command District) 1718/Sugapa, one member of Polres (City/Regency Police) Intan Jaya, and four civilians. According to initial statements, the pilot admitted he did not expect the aircraft's tire to detach upon touching the runway. Several passengers also heard a noise and felt a jolt from beneath the aircraft as it was preparing to land.

The pilot then steered the plane to the left until it veered off the landing path and entered a marsh area beside the runway. As a result of the incident, the aircraft suffered damage.

Two TNI Members Injured, Six Passengers Safe

Two TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) members on board were reported injured due to the impact. They were Serka (Chief Sergeant) Matheus, who sustained injuries to his waist, and Koptu (First Corporal) Johar, who sustained head injuries.

Meanwhile, six other passengers were reported safe. There were no fatalities in the incident, although the aircraft sustained damage after entering the marsh beside the runway. As of Saturday afternoon, the investigation was ongoing and police had not yet announced conclusions regarding the cause of the incident.

Police Process Crime Scene, Cause Still Under Investigation

Intan Jaya Police Chief Kompol (Police Commissioner) Sofian Corneles A. Samakori stated that police had processed the crime scene (TKP) and secured the area for investigative purposes.

"To date, we are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the plane skidding incident, including information regarding the aircraft tire that reportedly detached when attempting to land," said Sofian when contacted from Nabire on Saturday (24/10), citing Antara.

Police are still examining witness statements and preliminary information regarding the condition of the aircraft to confirm the cause of the Asian One Air plane's skidding.

MetroTV News, citing Ministry of Transportation documents, stated that the aircraft was a Cessna 208B registered as PK-LTF. Amateur footage of the incident also circulated widely and was broadcast by Kompas TV, showing the aircraft veering off the runway after a tire detached during landing.
