The value of digital gold transactions in Indonesia continues to shine. The Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) of the Ministry of Trade recorded transactions reaching Rp299.49 trillion from January to August 2026, skyrocketing 641.1 percent compared to Rp40.41 trillion in the same period in 2025.

In terms of volume, digital gold transactions reached 115.86 tons, an increase of 382.6 percent compared to 24 tons in the same period in 2025. This surge in both value and volume reflects surging public interest in digital gold-based investment instruments.

Announced at 41st TEI Seminar

The data was announced by the Head of Bappebti, Tirta Karma Senjaya, during a seminar titled 'Digital Gold: Modern Investment in the Digital Era', held in collaboration with the Indonesian Digital Gold Traders Association (PPEDI) on the sidelines of the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) at ICE BSD City, Tangerang Regency, on Saturday (10/17/2026).

Tirta explained that gold has long been recognized by the public as a store of value and a hedging tool. Alongside digital technology advancements, the physical trading of digital gold opens up broader opportunities for people to own gold more easily, affordably, and efficiently.

Physical trading of digital gold utilizes physical gold as the underlying asset with a 1:1 backing ratio. The ecosystem comprises exchanges, clearing houses, depository managers, intermediaries, and physical digital gold traders, all of which are licensed and under the guidance and supervision of Bappebti.

Bappebti Strengthens Literacy and Supervision

Amid this rapid growth, Bappebti continues to enhance public literacy regarding regulations, transaction mechanisms, and the risks of digital gold trading. 'The surge in transactions must be accompanied by public understanding of the regulations, ecosystem, mechanisms, opportunities, and risks of digital gold trading. Thus, the public can make transaction decisions more wisely,' Tirta said.

Industry strengthening also encompasses the security of technological systems and infrastructure, regulatory refinement, as well as tighter oversight and law enforcement. Bappebti mandates compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (APU-PPT / AML-CFT) programs, along with international standard information security certifications ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and ISO 27018 for futures exchanges, traders, and depository managers.

Warning for Investors

Tirta assessed that the transaction spike reflects the growing potential of the investment market, yet he cautioned that this positive momentum must be balanced by a mature understanding of risks. The public is urged to understand platform legality, the trading ecosystem, potential returns, and risks prior to transacting so as not to fall prey to illegal investments.

Through adaptive and responsive governance, Bappebti hopes that the expansion of the digital gold industry progresses hand in hand with consumer protection and public confidence in Indonesia's digital commodity market.
